Construction Update

Dear Parents/Guardians,
As a result of feedback received at the parent/guardian meeting held in November regarding the temporary relocation of students during the Phase 2 renovation project at Donald Young School, the Board has opted to delay the project. Originally intended to start this spring, the interior renovation is now set to start in June to allow classes to finish the school year.
Exterior renovations are planned to start in May, but won’t require relocation of students. The rest of the renovations, which includes updating the gym and three classrooms in the older section, will take place throughout the summer and into the fall. When school begins for the 2018-2019 school year, the three classes impacted by the renovations will be temporarily relocated in portables located on the Donald Young School property. The project is expected to be completed by Christmas holidays, at which time the students will move into the newly renovated classrooms.
Thank you to the parents/guardians who attended the meeting. The feedback helped to shape this decision, as well as taking into consideration such factors as safety of students and optimal learning environments.
We feel this is the best option to complete the project with as little disruption to staff, students, and families as possible.
